QB Scramble: AFC East Edition

  • by
Fantasy Football 2025

As another NFL season concludes, the most anticipated time of the year finally approaches…The NFL Offseason.

This is one of my favorite times of the year. I enjoy predicting offseason moves and trying to anticipate big acquisitions before they happen.  I’ve done extensive research on how each QB opening could potentially be filled this offseason. I feel ready for the NFL offseason, and the Super Bowl hasn’t even kicked off yet.

In my attempts to fill in the blanks through extensive research, there is always a chance that some of that research could be making something out of nothing. Please keep in mind that this is all speculative writing that hasn’t been provided insider information. You should take this input “with a grain of salt.”

I still hope you all enjoy this series nonetheless, as I predict the Quarterback Rooms for each NFL franchise in 2025. Today’s article focuses on the last division in the AFC and the last of this series, the AFC East.

2025 AFC East QB Room Predictions

Buffalo Bills

Quarterbacks: Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky

We wrap up the Quarterback Scramble series by focusing on the AFC East. It’s such a blessing in disguise to end it by talking about this year’s MVP. Although it’s not the flashiest portion of this article series, I see the Bills running it back with the current QB room. They get the job done.

Isn’t that what Josh Allen’s entire MVP campaign has consisted of? He might not have been as flashy as Lamar Jackson or even Joe Burrow, but after beating his division by the most wins of any division in the NFL, Allen got the job done for Buffalo.

Fantasy Advice: I’m not necessarily saying Josh Allen is a sell candidate…but eventually, as a dynasty manager, you’re going to have to break down Josh Allen’s value. I’m just pointing out that his value can’t get any higher than it is right now.

Miami Dolphins

Quarterbacks: Tua Tagovailoa, Drew Lock

I hate to say it, but this might be the last season that I feel confident locking in Tua Tagovailoa as the Dolphins starting quarterback. I hope with every fiber of my being that Tua can finish his career without any injury setbacks; it just doesn’t feel obtainable at this point. I’m not talking about season-ending setbacks either, by the way. It’s a very tough thing to overcome when you’re labeled as injury-prone. If Tua misses even one to two games this season, even if they are considered minor injuries, I can’t imagine Tua having the confidence of the franchise going forward after 2025.

Drew Lock has proven to be a serviceable backup in the league in his time with Seattle and New York. Could Lock fill in some games for Tua in case he misses some weeks of action? After seeing Mac Jones get his happiness back in Jacksonville, I’m advocating for all top backup quarterbacks to sign with teams around great weather.

Fantasy Advice: Tua managers should pick up Drew Lock off waivers if available.

New York Jets

Quarterbacks: Tyrod Taylor, Will Howard (rookie)

As of now, I have Tyrod Taylor and Will Howard as the Jets’ quarterback options. However, I’m slowly being converted to the idea of Justin Fields joining New York instead of Seattle.

Like I stated in the Seattle portion of the “Quarterback Scramble” series, Fields could be looking to link up with one of his former Ohio State teammates. If Seattle can land a different quarterback to fit Klint Kubiak’s system, I could see Fields following Garrett Wilson to New York.

Aaron Glenn was recently asked what kind of quarterback he would be looking for in New York. He replied, “A winner.”

Justin Fields has more upside than Tyrod Taylor does at this point in his career. Still, I don’t think Fields can be considered a winning quarterback. Will Howard, coming off a National Championship victory, on the other hand, could be considered a winning quarterback. The Jets also don’t have to use first-round draft capital to find their future winning quarterback by drafting Will Howard. I’m unsure how high Howard’s stock can rise in the NFL Draft. After a strong showing at the combine, he could be viewed as a second or third-round draft pick.

Whether it’s Tyrod Taylor as a veteran leader or Justin Fields to give the Jets some upside in 2025, I love the idea of the Jets drafting Will Howard as their future quarterback.

Fantasy Advice: Nobody knows yet how this Jets offense will be constructed. Don’t trade Jets players (Hall, Allen, Wilson) quite yet.

New England Patriots

Quarterbacks: Drake Maye, Sam Howell

I want to give Drake Maye the flowers that he deserves after his rookie season. Frankly he deserves a lot of great for what he all had to put up with in New England. I also need to focus on the most important pending move as well that could transpire in New England’s quarterback room.

After posting the NFC portion of this “Quarterback Scramble” series, I pondered the idea of Joe Milton getting an opportunity somewhere else around the NFL. Unfortunately, I didn’t have this epiphany until after submitting the remaining articles. Could you imagine the Seahawks trading Sam Howell for Joe Milton?

Last year around the NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders traded Sam Howell to Seattle. That gave an impression that they weren’t interested in drafting Drake Maye. Speculations started to arise due to the relationship that Howell and Maye had developed by playing at the University of North Carolina.

“If the Commanders were interested in Maye, wouldn’t they keep someone on the roster that he has a previous relationship with? It would make the transition to the NFL that much easier.”

Could the Patriots trade Joe Milton to Seattle to be the Seahawks’ future QB? If New England makes the move, they could be walking away with a late-round draft pick and Drake Maye’s friend to be his backup?

Fantasy Advice: Drake Maye could have a sophomore slump, but he is still worth drafting in dynasty formats.

AFC East Conclusion

Will the Jets move on from Aaron Rodgers in 2025? Is Drew Lock a good backup option behind Tua Tagovailoa? Could Ohio State QB Will Howard be the next franchise quarterback of the New York Jets? Time will always tell.

I hope you all enjoyed this article series breaking down the moves that could potentially come to fruition this offseason at the Quarterback position. I also look forward to shifting my focus onto NFL Draft prospects with the NFL Combine quickly approaching.
