QB Scramble: NFC South Edition

  • by
Fantasy Football 2025

As another NFL season concludes, the most anticipated time of the year finally approaches… The NFL Offseason.

This is one of my favorite times of the year. I enjoy predicting offseason moves and trying to anticipate big acquisitions before they happen.  I’ve done extensive research on how each QB opening could potentially be filled this offseason. I feel ready for the NFL offseason, and the Super Bowl hasn’t even kicked off yet.

In my attempts to fill in the blanks through extensive research, there is always a chance that some of that research could be making something out of nothing. Please keep in mind that this is all speculative writing that hasn’t been provided insider information; therefore, you should take this input “with a grain of salt.”

I still hope you all enjoy this series, nonetheless, as I predict the quarterback rooms for each NFL franchise in 2025. Today’s article focuses on the NFC South.

2025 NFC South QB Room Predictions

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Quarterbacks: Baker Mayfield, Zach Wilson

How Baker Mayfield was viewed as someone who gets coaches fired earlier in his career, growing into someone who has now helped two offensive coordinators become head coaches, cannot be understated.

There are plenty of days left of seeing Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay, but there are not a lot of days left for Zach Wilson as an NFL starting quarterback. Could Zach Wilson be the perfect replacement for Kyle Trask in Tampa Bay?

Atlanta Falcons

Quarterbacks: Michael Penix Jr, Tyler Huntley

The days of Michael Penix Jr. in Atlanta have only just begun, commencing a new era for the Falcons. Now that the Penix Jr. era has started, the biggest question in Atlanta’s quarterback room is whether or not they can get any value by trading away Kirk Cousins.

Although it does seem unlikely that they would get some trade value for Cousins with the price tag attached to him, it does seem like a certainty that Cousins will be somewhere else in 2025.

Carolina Panthers

Quarterbacks: Bryce Young, Andy Dalton

Although at one point in the season, it seemed unlikely that Bryce Young would be viewed as the starting option in 2025, things can quickly turn around like in Young’s case. Although there is a chance that Dalton pursues other options or opts to retire, I think Dalton is a fantastic mentor for Bryce Young in Carolina.

There is a chance that Young isn’t the long-term answer in Carolina. Given what we saw from Young during the second half of the season, as well as the lack of potential in this current QB draft class. I think it’s safe to say that Carolina would opt to address that need next offseason.

New Orleans Saints

Quarterbacks: Jacoby Brissett, Cameron Ward (rookie)

This is the big one, folks; buckle up!

There is lots of speculation as to how the Saints will get out of their current salary cap issues in 2025, as they are tight on cap space. Attached to the big contracts of aging veterans like Derek Carr & Cameron Jordan, how do the Saints get out of this one? Simple. A Restructure & Trade.

The question keeps running through my mind… Why would Kellen Moore be wasting his time taking interviews with New Orleans during the biggest week of his career when New Orleans has Derek Carr as their QB and is in a very tight cap situation? No disrespect towards Derek Carr, but I think he is past his days of enticing offensive coordinators to come and work with him. I think the Saints could be promising Kellen Moore a top QB prospect in this draft class to lure him from Philadelphia. Similar to why Ben Johnson didn’t opt to coach Las Vegas, why go if there’s no quarterback?

With Derek Carr & Titans HC Brian Callahan having a history in their time with the Raiders, as well as Titans new GM Mike Borgonzi’s draft strategy history suggesting they opt to trade back in the draft, I think the Saints could be looking at the 1st overall pick.

Trade Package

New Orleans Saints get:

  • 2025 First-Round Pick (Via TEN) #1 overall

Tennessee Titans get:

  • 2025 First-Round Pick (via NO) #9th overall
  • 2026 First-Round Pick (via NO)
  • QB Derek Carr
  • OT Trevor Penning

NFC South Conclusion

Could Zach Wilson be the perfect backup to Baker Mayfield? Should we expect a massive turnaround in New Orleans to entice Kellen Moore to join the Saints? Time will tell as the free agency and the NFL Draft commence, but as of this very moment, the odds for these scenarios all coming to fruition feel very high.

Stay tuned as the next article in this series will be breaking down the NFC West.
