As another NFL season concludes, the most anticipated time of the year finally approaches… The NFL Offseason.
This is one of my favorite times of the year. I enjoy predicting offseason moves and trying to anticipate big acquisitions before they happen. I’ve done extensive research on how each QB opening could potentially be filled this offseason. I feel ready for the NFL offseason, and the Super Bowl hasn’t even kicked off yet.
In my attempts to fill in the blanks through extensive research, there is always a chance that some of that research could be making something out of nothing. Please keep in mind that this is all speculative writing that hasn’t been provided insider information; therefore, you should take this input “with a grain of salt.”
I still hope you all enjoy this series, nonetheless, as I predict the quarterback rooms for each NFL franchise in 2025. Today’s article focuses on the NFC West.

2025 NFC West QB Room Predictions
Los Angeles Rams
Quarterbacks: Sam Darnold, Kyle McCord (rookie)
With the amount of thought that I’ve given this prediction, this portion of the article should be the longest portion of the entire “Quarterback Scramble” series. I will try to simplify my thoughts on why Stafford will be playing elsewhere while also trying to give as much attention to each franchise’s quarterback depth charts.
Yes, the playoff run was very important and not expected. Yes, Stafford is a first-ballot Hall of Fame candidate. And yes, I get that he’s a fan favorite for a team on the rise. I even understand that the team has a lot of cap space to go after an abundance of free agents… but all jokes aside, when are you going to find an MVP candidate at a discounted price who was playing at an MVP level in your protege’s system… it’s basically McVay’s system!
This team is roughly 26 years old on average, and that is with Stafford and Kupp still on the roster. The Rams could sign Darnold at a cheaper price than Stafford, as well as draft a quarterback of the future. Drafting a prospect like Kyle McCord to learn under Darnold is a great idea, and the Rams would be insured in case Darnold’s success was a one-year wonder.
Fantasy Advice: Buy low on Sam Darnold (Recently traded Dak Prescott)
Seattle Seahawks
Quarterbacks: Justin Fields, Dillon Gabriel (rookie)
“First, the Rams trade Stafford, and now the Seahawks trade Geno Smith? What kind of article is this?”
I’m sure it’s hard to imagine at first glance. After a lot of thought about what the Seahawks could do this offseason, the thought kept going through my mind. “What is tying Geno Smith to Mike Macdonald?” Nothing was the answer.
There are a few franchises out there that could use a Geno Smith this offseason, but the more I think about it, I don’t know if the Seahawks are one of them. Head coach Mike MacDonald came from Baltimore, where he had Lamar Jackson on the other side of the ball. He understands the importance of having a mobile quarterback, as well as eventually dealing with offensive line issues in Seattle. Justin Fields, who could be the odd man out in Pittsburgh, could eventually look to sign in Seattle and rejoin his Ohio State teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Fantasy Advice: Trade a 2026 3rd for Justin Fields
Arizona Cardinals
Quarterbacks: Kyler Murray, Clayton Tune
I kicked around the idea of a Kyler Murray trade very strongly early in the offseason. After seeing the limited destinations Murray could land at, as well as seeing the Cardinals’ urgency to go for it without Stafford in the division, I moved off of that idea. Clayton Tune is a quality backup, and with the reps he has in the system, I thought there was a chance he could’ve been a bridge QB in 2025.
If the Cardinals decided to draft a QB in 2025, I think Tune would be serviceable in the meantime while that rookie learns the system. With Jalen Milroe not impressing at the Senior Bowl, it seemed unlikely for the Cardinals to give up on a sure QB in Kyler Murray for a prospect like Milroe at a cheaper price.
Fantasy Advice: Hold Kyler Murray…a WR2 is coming in 2025
San Francisco 49ers
Quarterbacks: Brock Purdy, Jimmy Garoppolo
This prediction is like an onion; there are just so many layers to this.
Does Garoppolo returning to the only place where he was successful make a lot of sense? Yes. Does Garoppolo’s return move along the Brock Purdy contract negotiations? It’s far-fetched, but I think there’s some truth to that statement.
Although bringing Garoppolo back might originally just be a negotiation tactic to smooth along contract talks. Once Purdy and the 49ers agree on a contract extension, Garoppolo can be a fan-favorite backup and eventually retire as a part of the 49ers organization.
Fantasy Advice: Brock Purdy managers should pick up Jimmy Garoppolo
NFC West Conclusion
Is Sam Darnold the successor to Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles? Is Justin Fields the future of Seattle Seahawks football? Could we even see Jimmy Garoppolo return to the 49ers in 2025? Time will tell as the free agency and the NFL Draft commence, but as of this very moment, the odds for these scenarios all coming to fruition feel very high.
Stay tuned as the next article in this series will be breaking down the last division in the NFC, the NFC East.
