Week 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals
Fantasy Theme: A Shootout Creates Immediate Opportunity
If fantasy managers were designing a dream opening matchup, this would be close. The Bengals have one of the league’s most explosive offenses, which means Tampa Bay may not have the luxury of playing conservative football. This is exactly what fantasy managers want.
More possessions. More plays. And definitely more passing attempts.
The biggest question: Who becomes Baker Mayfield‘s first read without Mike Evans?
Baker Mayfield vs. Bengals – Fantasy Projection: 23-27 points
The Bengals’ offense forces Tampa into aggressive football.
My Expectations:
- 35-40 pass attempts
- 275-325 passing yards
- 2-3 touchdowns
The biggest fantasy boost for Baker is simple: he does not need to dominate the game. He just needs Cincinnati to score. Fantasy managers who drafted him as a QB2 could immediately have a weekly starter.
Emeka Egbuka vs. Bengals – Fantasy Projection: 18-22 points
This is the matchup where fantasy managers see the difference between being a talented receiver and being a featured receiver.
Egbuka enters the season with:
- No Mike Evans taking targets
- A quarterback who trusts timing routes
- An offense that needs a new alpha

A running back who catches five passes has a safe fantasy floor. This is where he announces himself. AGAIN!
Chris Godwin vs. Bengals – Fantasy Projection: 14-17 points
Godwin becomes the veteran stabilizer. While defenses focus on Egbuka, Godwin wins underneath. No, he’s not explosive. But he is reliable. He is the classic PPR WR2.

Cade Otton vs. Bengals – Fantasy Projection: 8-12 points
The Bengals’ defense will focus on stopping Tampa’s outside weapons.
That creates red-zone opportunities. Otton is a touchdown-dependent play, but this matchup gives him a chance. Especially with the amount of passing attempts I am expecting from Mayfield. No, I am not saying you should start Otton in week 1. I am saying keep an eye on his usage for bye weeks.
Week 2: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cleveland Browns
Fantasy Theme: The Bucky Irving Showcase
This matchup changes the formula. Unlike Cincinnati, Cleveland wants a physical game. Their defense is designed to pressure quarterbacks and force offenses into long drives. This is the game where Tampa has to pound the football. The Browns’ defensive front will challenge the offensive line, but Tampa should lean on Bucky Irving early to keep them from teeing off on Baker.
The answer? Run the football.
That puts Bucky Irving in the spotlight.

Cleveland’s physical corners could limit explosive plays.

Chris Godwin vs. Browns – Fantasy Projection: 12-15 points
This is exactly the type of game where Godwin earns his fantasy value.
Short routes. Third downs. Chain-moving catches.
Cade Otton vs. Browns – Fantasy Projection: 10-14 points
Physical defenses often leave tight ends available underneath.
A sneaky streaming week? This is still a wait-and-see for me.
Week 3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings
Fantasy Theme: Emeka Egbuka’s Breakout Game
Minnesota plays aggressive defense. Aggressive defenses create big play opportunities. Especially for receivers who can separate quickly.
That is Egbuka. Quick slants. Crossing patterns. Screens.
Emeka Egbuka vs. Vikings – Fantasy Projection: 22-28 points
My Expectations:
- 9 catches
- 120 yards
- Touchdown
This is the week fantasy managers stop calling him a sleeper.
Baker Mayfield vs. Vikings – Fantasy Projection: 24 points
Minnesota’s pressure creates opportunities for explosive plays.
My Expectations:
- 300 yards

Bucky Irving vs. Vikings – Fantasy Projection: 17-21 points
