Confession time: I took a break from fantasy football.
Not a “I’m still lurking on Twitter and pretending I’m unplugged” kind of break.
Not a “I’m not watching film, but I accidentally watched six rookie highlight videos” kind of break.
A real one.
No rankings. No mock drafts. Not even rookie debates. And no “this third-string running back is getting first-team reps in shorts” overreactions.
Nothing.
And honestly? It was glorious.
As many of you know, I’m in 15 dynasty leagues. Fifteen. Which means fantasy football isn’t just a hobby around this time of year—it becomes a full-time part of your brain.
The fantasy season ends, and suddenly you’re already sprinting toward the next one.
Who are the incoming rookies? What players am I drafting? Which guys am I fading? Who am I okay being wrong on? How do I move my draft board around so I can get to that player before someone else does?
And then the next thing you know, you’re six tabs deep, three podcasts behind, and trying to convince yourself that a 2:00 a.m. rookie landing-spot take is somehow healthy behavior.
That’s the offseason grind. And for me, over the last few months, it stopped feeling fun. It felt like work, like an obligation. It felt like I was chasing information instead of enjoying the game.
Then life stepped in.
Some family issues came up, and suddenly, fantasy football needed to move to the back seat.
So I stepped away.
Completely.
I didn’t watch any football content. Didn’t listen to football podcasts. Didn’t even want football on TV.
And you know what happened?
I breathed again.
For a couple of weeks, I didn’t care who was climbing rookie boards. I didn’t care whose dynasty value was “exploding.” I didn’t care whether someone’s favorite sleeper was now officially “not a sleeper anymore.”
In that time, I just… existed.
And it was awesome.
That break reminded me of something I think all of us need to hear once in a while: Fantasy football is supposed to be fun.
Not homework. Not stress. Definitely not something that makes you feel like if you miss three days of news, you’ll never recover. Because here’s the truth, none of us has it figured out anyway.
We all have “our guys.” The players we can’t quit. The prospects we swear won’t work in the NFL.
And most of the time? We’re hilariously wrong.
The guy you loved for three years might never start a meaningful NFL game. The guy you couldn’t stand in college turns into a 12-year producer who ruins your takes every September.
That’s fantasy football. It’s chaos. That’s the beauty of it.
Now here we are.
Rookie draft season.
And I’ll be honest, I feel a little lost. I feel like I missed a lot. Like everyone else kept running while I stopped to catch my breath. It felt like I was walking back into class after being absent for two weeks, and everybody already knows what chapter we’re on.
But that’s okay.
Because catching up is part of the fun, too.
There are plenty of places to dive back in. Rankings. Film. ADP. Conversations. Arguments. Overreactions. That one friend who suddenly thinks he’s discovered the next league-winning fourth-round receiver because he watched two preseason clips.
And even after stepping away, the foundation is still there. You still know what traits you like and what players fit your process. You still know the names that made you stop and pay attention months ago. The break didn’t erase that. It just reset it. And honestly, I needed that.
So now?
I’m back.
The draft boards are coming out again. The trade calculators are about to get abused again. The “I can move from 1.09 to 1.05 if I package this veteran and a future second” math is officially back.
The grind starts again.
But this time, it feels different. This time it feels exciting. This time it feels fun.
So consider this my official welcome back to myself, and to all of you.
Over the next couple of months, I’ll be back talking rookies, dynasty values, draft strategy, players I love, players I’m fading, and probably a few takes that will age like milk by October.
You’ll see me on screen. You’ll see me here. And I genuinely can’t wait.
Because sometimes the best way to fall back in love with fantasy football… is to step away long enough to miss it.
