Week 11 Fantasy Football Waivers: Tez Johnson to the Rescue!

Fantasy Football Waivers

The fantasy playoffs are so close, and waivers are so, so ugly. I mentioned this last week, but the problem is worse in Week 11. So bad in fact, that two of my top-5 picks don’t even play this week. UG. LY. Regardless, we press on. With trade deadlines approaching, waivers might be your only shot at improving your roster. It’s just a matter of how much better you can actually get.

A few quick notes: I use ESPN as my baseline, so players must be available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues to be included on the list. I’m also a proponent of streaming QB, TE, K, and DEF, so you’ll rarely see those positions on my list; there are usually quality players readily available for free after the waiver period. Save your FAAB! Now, let’s hit the Top 5.

Bye Week Notes: There are two teams on bye in Week 11: the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. Watch your league’s drops this week for players from these teams who were cut out of desperation.

Week 11 Fantasy Football Waivers

Week 11 Fantasy Football Waivers

Tez Johnson (72% Available on ESPN, 47% on Sleeper)

After Weeks 7 and 8, there were concerns about Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers’ offense. Mayfield was struggling without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and there was no telling what they would look like coming out of their Week 9 bye. Damn good. That’s how they looked. And Tez Johnson took advantage, scoring two TDs. Over the last five weeks, Johnson has been the WR20 in fantasy football, and again, that includes a bye week. He is a WR2 with Godwin off the field and remains a Flex option once Godwin returns. Add him.

Alec Pierce (64% Available on ESPN, 47% on Sleeper)

Waivers are bad this week. So bad that my number-two option is on bye in Week 11, something I usually wouldn’t suggest. Times are tough, but more importantly, you cannot ignore Pierce’s recent performance. He is the WR12 in fantasy over the team’s last four games. In that span, he has 35 targets and has crossed 80 yards three times. He is the lone deep threat in this offense, and his role is secure. There is a boom-or-bust nature to his game, but over the last month, his floor has been nine points, and that ain’t too bad. If you need a high-upside Flex for the playoffs and can survive without him this week, Pierce deserves a spot.

Juwan Johnson (65% Available on ESPN, 39% on Sleeper)

Yup…another bye week. Tight ends are hard to come by and dropping like flies. We lost Tucker Kraft last week, and now Oronde Gadsden is hurt. Meanwhile, Johnson has been on fire for the last month and hasn’t missed a beat with Tyler Shough taking over. In fact, he may have gotten better with his old college QB. Johnson hasn’t scored fewer than ten fantasy points in his last four games, and is the TE4 in that span. Last week, he found the endzone and finished as the TE3. Now he gets a free week to build chemistry. Johnson could be a savior for streaming teams heading into the fantasy playoffs.

Tyler Allgeier (72% Available on ESPN, 64% on Sleeper)

We play this game with Allgeier every year. Nobody wants to roster him because he is a backup, but everyone hates him because of how much work he steals from Bijan Robinson. In Week 10, he vultured two TDs, and the fantasy world is LIVID! The long and short of it is this: Allgeier is a low-upside Flex play most weeks, but for RB-needy teams, he can be a decent RB2. More importantly, if anything were to happen to Robinson, Allgeier is a league winner. I know Bijan Robinson is rostered in 100% of leagues, but I cannot understand how they all haven’t added Allgeier as insurance. Protect your team now, before it’s too late.

Trey Benson (50% Available on ESPN, 36% on Sleeper)

Benson is probably only out there if your league does not offer IR spots. He just missed his fifth game with a knee injury and hasn’t returned to practice yet, so this is a speculative add, at best. I firmly believe he wins his job back easily once he is off the IR, so add him now and get ahead of the crowd. In Weeks 1-4, he was the RB36 in fantasy and averaged over eight points per game. A lot of that time was spent in a split with James Conner. Even if he shares the load when he comes back, he is still a safe-floor RB3. Who doesn’t need that right now?
