Week 6 Fantasy Football Waivers: Can Kimani Vidal Step Up?

Fantasy Football Waivers

We just can’t have nice things! No one was happy when Najee Harris was hurt, but there was a small bit of excitement around seeing what Omarion Hampton could do with the backfield to himself. As we enter Week 6, Hampton is the RB10…and will miss the next four weeks with an ankle injury. Damn it! Thankfully, there weren’t many injuries in Week 5, but losing Hampton will hurt. Looking at waivers this week, it’s not pretty. I wouldn’t blow a lot of FAAB unless you are in dire straits.

A few quick notes: I use ESPN as my baseline, so players must be available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues to be included on the list. I’m also a proponent of streaming QB, TE, K, and DEF, so you’ll rarely see those positions on my list; they’re easily available for free after the waiver period. Save your FAAB! Now, let’s hit the Top 5.

Bye Week Notes: This week, the Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans are on bye. Watch your league’s drops this week for players from these teams who were cut due to desperation.

Kimani Vidal (100% Available on ESPN, 100% on Sleeper)

It’s not too often that my top waiver priority is available in 100% of leagues, but when you go from practice squad to starter, here we are. Many will be unfamiliar with Vidal, but he did see some limited playing time as a rookie last season. With Hampton sidelined, Vidal will split time with Hassan Haskins, but Vidal is younger and a better pass-catcher, thus making him the better choice in fantasy. The Chargers have a good running game, and Vidal could be a nice fill-in for the next four weeks.

Romeo Doubs (55% Available on ESPN, 38% on Sleeper)

Doubs was on this list before he popped off for three TDs in Week 4. He was even on this list heading into his Week 5 bye, so that you could get ahead of the crowd. He is still available in about half of leagues, so if you are WR-needy or want a high-upside Flex, Doubs is an excellent choice.

Michael Carter (58% Available on ESPN, 41% on Sleeper)

Sometimes we guess wrong. When Trey Benson hit the IR, all assumptions were that Emari Demercado, who had played in every game this season, would be the primary back. WRONG! Michael Carter took on that role and performed pretty well in it. Carter himself alluded to his starting role in an interview earlier in the week. We should have listened. Demercado and Bam Knight will make this a timeshare, but Carter is the most valuable piece for fantasy managers. He’ll only have the job for three weeks, so don’t go wild with your FAAB bids.

Darren Waller (51% Available on ESPN, 32% on Sleeper)

I only include TEs on this list if they can get you out of the streaming game, and Waller appears to be an every-week starter. Three TDs in two weeks, and pretty clearly a favorite target for Tua Tagovailoa, make Waller interesting for fantasy. After two games, he is the TE1 on a points-per-game basis and TE24 overall, which speaks volumes to how weak the TE spot is for fantasy. View Waller as a top-12 play moving forward and spend accordingly, based on your need at the position.

Tory Horton (96% Available on ESPN, 85% on Sleeper)

Horton is probably a better option for deeper leagues, but this kid keeps scoring TDs, and I think he is worth a stash. He is only the WR53 overall, so not really a starter, but he has found the end zone four times in five games, with one of those being a return touchdown. He has been targeted four times in three of his last four games, and if you eliminate his Week 1 goose egg, he is the WR34. You’re probably starting him as a desperation move, but if you have room to stash, Horton feels like a nice lottery ticket.
