Well, now we’re in the thick of it. The first few weeks of waivers are usually about finding that diamond in the rough that you missed at your draft. Now, we have to deal with bye weeks on top of all the recent injuries. Starting in Week 5, fantasy football waivers are about survival! Here are the players I am prioritizing this week.
A few quick notes: I use ESPN as my baseline, so players must be available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues to be included on the list. I’m also a proponent of streaming QB, TE, K, and DEF, so you’ll rarely see those positions on my list; they’re easily available for free after waivers. Save your FAAB! Now, let’s hit the Top 5.
Bye Week Notes: This week, the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Steelers are all on bye. Watch your league’s drops this week for players from these teams who were cut due to desperation.

Week 5 Fantasy Football Waivers
Woody Marks (67% Available on ESPN, 63% on Sleeper)
Nick Chubb isn’t the future, and who knows if Joe Mixon will play this season? Woody Marks is a lottery ticket. Marks has seen his involvement grow every week so far, culminating in two TDs against Tennessee in Week 4. He’ll be the hot add this week, and if you need an RB, he is worth most, if not all, of your FAAB. If you missed out on Trey Benson last week, Marks is a good consolation prize.

Romeo Doubs (63% Available on ESPN, 56% on Sleeper)
That makes three weeks in a row that Doubs has been featured in this article. Do you not want the WR1 in Green Bay? The Packers are on bye this week, but Doubs is worth the stash. He scored three TDs in Green Bay’s tie against Dallas and will be this team’s primary receiver for the foreseeable future. If only you had listened to me last week.
Wan’Dale Robinson (46% Available on ESPN, 36% on Sleeper)
Technically, Robinson breaks my 50% role, but when an alpha like Malik Nabers goes down, the backup deserves a mention. Robinson started the season red-hot, but has cooled significantly over the last two weeks. He is averaging about seven targets per game, but in Weeks 3 and 4, that only produced four catches for 34 yards, total. With Jaxon Dart at the helm, this offense is a wild card, but Robinson is worth the add if he’s out there. If he’s not, check for Darius Slayton, who will slide into Nabers’ actual role.
Elic Ayomanor (69% Available on ESPN, 43% on Sleeper)
Let the rest of your league sleep on this rookie; he is fast becoming Tennessee’s best and most reliable target. Adding wide receivers from bad teams can be a good thing. Ayomanor has one more target and 15 more fantasy points than Calvin Ridley this season. His stat lines are up-and-down, and he certainly seems touchdown-dependent, but he is still a fine Flex play in deeper leagues.
Kendre Miller (95% Available on ESPN, 93% on Sleeper)
It took years, but Miller finally looks primed to assume the role he was drafted to fill. He is playing well as Alvin Kamara’s backup, and would take over as the primary runner were the team to trade Kamara. Even if he remains the backup, Miller has 28 carries on the season and is coming off a game with 5.9 yards per carry and a TD. He is more of a bye-week desperation play, but you could do worse as your RB2 over the next month.
