Dallas Goedert — A Trade to Boost his Fantasy Football Value

Fantasy Football 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of a Super Bowl championship. Any time that happens, changes are likely around the corner. The salary cap goes up, and player salaries begin to increase as well. This is when teams have to make difficult decisions with regard to veterans. And the rumor mill has been active with the noise that the Eagles are likely to trade, or release, star TE Dallas Goedert.

Why would the Eagles move on from someone who is such a key component in their offense? For starters, Goedert has a cap number of $11.8 million. If Goedert were to be released, the Eagles would incur $21.4 million in dead money on their 2025 salary cap. But if he were to be traded or cut post-June 1st, the Eagles would save a little over $4 million this year.

And with the Eagles clearly trying to make sure they have enough money for what will inevitably be a record-setting contract extension for DT Jalen Carter, some tough decisions loom.

Dallas Goedert has been a productive TE when healthy. And that’s the key phrase– “when healthy.” Only once in his career has Goedert played a full season, and that was his rookie year when he split snaps with Zach Ertz. Between his rookie season and last year, he had five straight seasons with over 500 receiving yards. He also has six straight seasons averaging more than 40 receiving yards per game.

Goedert would be an instant upgrade for a lot of teams. And since he has the 5th highest AAV among TEs in the NFL and will likely want a new contract since he has no guaranteed money remaining on his current contract, he likely won’t be an expensive acquisition in terms of draft pick compensation.

So what might it cost to acquire Goedert? And with what teams would he fit best? I have a few teams in mind where Goedert could land and provide us fantasy football managers with a startable TE.

Best Trade Spots for Dallas Goedert in Fantasy Football

Los Angeles Chargers

In quite a few mock drafts, a TE has often been linked to Los Angeles. If they decide to go defense early, they would still need a TE that can be productive in their scheme. The Chargers were 20th in the league in targets to the TE position. In Greg Roman’s four seasons as the offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens, he was 1st or 2nd in the league in TE targets in three of those four seasons.

And let’s be honest- the duo of Will Dissly and newly-signed Tyler Conklin aren’t on the same production level as Dallas Goedert.

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has always built his teams in the trenches and to play good defense. And they had a solid defense in his first year in Los Angeles. But they could stand to get younger in some spots. That could turn the team’s attention away from adding a TE like Colston Loveland in the 1st round.

And sending a 4th round pick to the Eagles for Goedert and one of their four 5th rounders on Draft day could keep the team’s attention on finding more defensive help, a future RB1, and a WR to complement star-in-the-making Ladd McConkey.

Indianapolis Colts

Coaches tend to love acquiring players who have performed well in their systems. Current Colts head coach Shane Steichen is the former offensive coordinator of the Eagles. And Dallas Goedert had the best season of his career in 2021 with Steichen calling the plays.

The Colts had the fourth fewest targets to the TE position last season, down from 16th most in 2023 during Steichen’s first year in Indianapolis. They’ve been riddled with injuries to the position the last couple of seasons. So why does acquiring a tight end with a decorated injury history make sense for a .500 team over the past two seasons?

Production. And Goedert has more of that than anyone currently on the Colts roster. The combination of Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones would love Goedert’s field-stretching abilities. Sending their 5th rounder in 2026 to the Eagles in exchange for Goedert would keep their 2025 draft class intact while adding an offensive weapon for this season as well.

Los Angeles Rams

I already talked about one Los Angeles team that could be a fit for Goedert. The Rams make a lot of sense as well.

Tyler Higbee is well past his prime and Colby Parkinson doesn’t bring to the table on offense what Goedert offers. The Rams running game could also benefit with this upgrade, something that I’m sure Kyren Williams would be thankful for.

The Rams have eight picks in this year’s draft class. They could send a 4th or 5th round pick in the 2026 draft to bring in another offensive piece for one last Super Bowl push with Matthew Stafford at QB.

Philadelphia Eagles

While it makes all the financial sense in the world for the Eagles to move off of Dallas Goedert, it also makes sense to restructure his deal. While Goedert’s presence might cap the upside of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in the passing game, Goedert’s ability as a blocker is a huge boost for one of the top running games in the NFL.

Goedert has four void years on his current contract. (For those wondering, this is the cheat code GM Howie Roseman uses to get so much talent on the roster.) But just like Roseman did with extensions for RT Lane Johnson and RB Saquon Barkley, a similar move could be made to restructure Goedert to keep him in the fold while they draft another high upside TE for him to mentor, the same way Zach Ertz once mentored Goedert.

A three-year deal around $10 million per year would keep Goedert in the top 15 of AAV at the position. Additional void years can stretch out the cap hits. If Philly can convince Goedert to take a deal similar to Mike Gesicki, that’d be even better for their cap over the next few years. And fantasy football managers still have a top 12 streaming option at tight end.

Any one of these options would be good for Dallas Goedert’s fantasy football value in 2025 and beyond. The simple fact is, unless he’s healthy for a full season, his upside is capped. So, draft wisely.
