The A List at DFS Academy | NFL DFS Week 3

NFL DFS

Coming out of Week 1, I was looking forward to some normalcy. I was looking for some predictability. And then the Dallas Cowboys lost to the New Orleans Saints, and the Baltimore Ravens lost to the Las Vegas Raiders. So you may be wondering how the heck we are supposed to predict NFL DFS Cash players in Week 3 when chaos like that is happening.

While we can’t predict the chaos of who will win or lose, we can identify volume trends fairly consistently. As the season continues to settle, we will better identify which players are playing a stable role in their offense.

Plus, we will take advantage of late swap opportunities. More on that later.

Let’s get into Week 3 NFL DFS.

Cash is in session.

NFL DFS Week 3

Teacher’s Pet

Chris Godwin (DraftKings: $6,500 / FanDuel: $6,600)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a surprising victory over the Detroit Lions in a matchup where Chris Godwin crushed it. Similar to that matchup, Godwin has an opportunity to take advantage of Mike Evans drawing close coverage. Evans is likely to draw the Pat Surtain shadow, which will allow Godwin to continue racking up targets. Further, his price stayed fairly low despite an incredible performance in Week 2. Lock him in.

NFL DFS Week 3

Honor Roll

Kyler Murray (DraftKings: $6,900 / FanDuel: $8,300)

The quarterback landscape has been surprisingly bad this season. Granted, it has only been two weeks, but still. That said, Kyler Murray has been QB7 so far in DraftKings scoring, and he’s done it in a fairly similar fashion week over week. Anytime we have a rushing quarterback priced under $7,000, I’m interested. Add in a positive game script against the Detroit Lions, and we have a lineup lock.

Jerome Ford (DraftKings: $5,800 / FanDuel: $6,500)

Jerome Ford may break the record for most times featured in this article. He continues to be priced below $6,000, yet is the number one running back in a historically solid rushing offense. Through two weeks, the New York Giants have allowed the second most points to running backs. Even though Ford had a subpar week last week, the volume is too good to pass. If he fails another week, then we will pivot, but for this week, we ride.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (DraftKings: $8,200 / FanDuel: $9.100)

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we must acknowledge one thing. Jared Goff is not going to pass the ball 55 times every week. That outlier amount of pass attempts surely contributed to Amon-Ra St. Brown’s pass volume last week, but he has accomplished similar feats before with way fewer attempts. He has also yet to score a touchdown this year, which is certainly to occur at some point. The game environment is ripe for St. Brown to catch a bunch more passes, and Detroit is going to want to get back on track after a surprising loss. Count St. Brown in for another high-volume day,

Check the Chalkboard

Jordan Mason (DraftKings: $6,200 / FanDuel: $8,300)

This is typically the part of the article where I’d talk about Christian McCaffrey or Tyreek Hill. But this is 2024, and Jordan Mason has captured hearts and minds as the best DFS Cash play week after week. He’s being treated as if he is McCaffrey, and now the 49ers are missing two of their top offensive weapons. Mason could easily touch the ball 30 times, but it is barely priced over $6,000. He will continue to be a free square until he is pushing $8,000.

Participation Grade

Jauan Jennings (DraftKings: $4,100 / FanDuel: $5,200)

As mentioned above, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are unlikely to play on Sunday. Given that dynamic, Jauan Jennings will step in as a prominent pass catcher in this offense. When playing DFS Cash games, we often look for the injury discount, which is a situation where the backup is wildly cheap because no one expects the starter to sit. That’s where Jennings comes in this week. Expect him to be highly rostered as other players chase the cheap targets.

Back of the Classroom Studs

Pat Freiermuth (DraftKings: $4,000 / FanDuel: $5,200)

The tight end position has been a struggle to start the season. Before making the case for why Pat Freiermuth is worth the roster spot, I want to flag that Brock Bowers is also a smash play, but it requires you to save salary more at other positions. As for Freiermuth, he has recorded exactly four catches in each of his first two games. Now, he faces a Los Angeles Chargers team that has struggled against tight ends through two weeks. If you want to save money at tight end, look no further than Pat Freiermuth.

Diontae Johnson (DraftKings: $4,900 / FanDuel: $5,300)

Remember how I mentioned late swap opportunities in the introduction? This is why. Yes, I am also scared about playing a Carolina Panther. However, with Andy Dalton under center, I expect this offense to get back on track. Diontae Johnson has maintained consistent target volume despite the struggles of the Panthers’ offense to start the season. Now, if you add some efficiency, Johnson will easily triple his salary and pay off in DFS Cash.

Green Bay Packers (DraftKings: $3,300 / FanDuel: $4,000)

Will Levis has made some highly publicized mistakes in the past two weeks, making it easy to continue betting against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. The Packers are coming off a performance where they recorded three interceptions against Anthony Richardson, demonstrating their ability to force turnovers. This is also likely to be a low-scoring game, which will help the Packers maintain a safe floor.
