Brandon Aiyuk 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Break the Bay Area Bank?

It seemed like a big challenge to write about Brandon Aiyuk’s trade demands and his potential on-field performance in 2024. While I can share my perspective on Aiyuk’s possible return to San Francisco, the final decision lies with people in higher positions. Aiyuk deserves compensation as a top-tier wide receiver in the league. However, should his compensation align with the system run by Kyle Shanahan?  This is an important question that needs to be answered by those in higher positions.

The dedicated members of the 49ers faithful eagerly look forward to Aiyuk’s return to the team. We hope to regain our position in the Super Bowl. In this context, hope and faith are closely related, especially when considering the retention of a highly talented player. There is the potential for the front office to request a pay reduction for his return, leaving the franchise dependent on hope and faith in the wake of their star player leaving.

Fantasy Outlook

I hope I don’t have to write a lengthy article to explain why Brandon Aiyuk is an exceptional fantasy football wide receiver. I believe that anyone watching him play can see that he makes a significant impact on game days. You can’t deny the difference he makes for the 49ers when you watch him. His consistency has been invaluable for fantasy managers in the 2023-24 season.

Aiyuk finished as the WR15 in 2022 and WR14 in 2023. These performances helped many fantasy managers win championships. Current rankings have him correctly placed as WR13 on Sleeper, as he has proven to be a top receiver in a high-powered offense. In contrast, his teammate Deebo Samuel is currently ranked as WR17 after finishing just one spot behind Aiyuk in 2023.

Given the 49ers’ strong offense featuring two Top-15 wide receivers, the #1 overall running back, a Top-5 tight end, and the QB6 in 2023, I firmly believe that Brandon Aiyuk can still have a highly productive fantasy football season, especially with the addition of Ricky Pearsall.

It seems unlikely that Aiyuk will play for another team at the start of the 2024 NFL season. If that were to happen, I don’t think it would change my view of Aiyuk as a fantasy asset. He is well-schemed and designed to excel in San Francisco, yet he could still likely achieve over 1300 receiving yards elsewhere. Although it might require more effort on his part on another team. The landing spot is crucial for fantasy production, but Aiyuk’s skills make him a strong candidate for 1300+ receiving yards regardless of his team.

A Look Inside the San Francisco 49ers

Editor’s Note: Although this article focuses on Brandon Aiyuk, I believe it is best to see the fantasy football value of others in this 49ers offense.

Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy delivered an impressive performance last season and even received consideration for the MVP award. He is currently ranked as the QB11 going into the 2024-25 season. Despite his lower ranking, he continues to hold the potential to perform at a top-10 level week in and week out. This potential is tied to the high-powered offense and the abundance of talented playmakers surrounding him. While the distribution of targets in San Francisco remains uncertain, one thing is definite: there will be a plethora of opportunities for passes. You can strategize to acquire Brock Purdy as a starting QB1 with an emphasis on maximizing his value or consider him as a solid QB2 in SuperFlex leagues. Either way, Brock Purdy presents an enticing value proposition again this season.

Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey’s relentless commitment to self-improvement continues to captivate fans and experts alike. His exceptional performances firmly establish him as the top running back in redraft leagues and dynasty formats. McCaffrey’s consistent and remarkable displays on the field leave no doubt about his immense value. This consistency positions him as a player that every team should prioritize. However, some may steer clear due to the lingering superstition of the Madden Curse.

Deebo Samuel

Deebo Samuel is currently ranked as the 17th wide receiver in fantasy football drafts. Some may feel this is a bit high, considering the talented players in San Francisco. However, compared to his finish as the 15th wide receiver in PPR leagues last season, it’s a great value. Moreover, there is uncertainty surrounding Brandon Aiyuk’s availability at the start of the regular season. His absence could further boost Deebo’s value. If Aiyuk were unavailable, Deebo could see more targets, leading to an even greater increase in fantasy production. On the downside, there is a greater risk of re-injury for Samuel, given his medical history. There is a possibility that Samuel may miss some games due to carrying most of the 49ers’ receiving workload. However, it’s worth considering that players who perform well battling injuries are often highly valued in fantasy football.

Ricky Pearsall

I had the honor of attending the 2024 NFL Draft. As a passionate 49ers enthusiast, this allowed me time to reflect on the decision to select Ricky Pearsall in the first round. As time has continued, the reasoning behind this choice has become increasingly clear. It’s important to note that players don’t always need to produce remarkable results in their rookie year to blossom into outstanding athletes. It’s fascinating to contemplate the substantial opportunity that Pearsall possesses to carve out his place this season. This is especially true given the uncertainty surrounding Aiyuk’s return to the lineup. Evaluating Pearsall’s role in the team’s offense, it’s evident that he represents an advancement from Jauan Jennings as the team’s WR3. Pearsall’s presence also contributes to balancing out the 49ers’ wide receiver group, bolstering the team’s resilience in the face of a potential Deebo Samuel injury or a trade involving Brandon Aiyuk.

George Kittle

Last and most certainly not least, we have “The People’s Tight End” sitting on draft boards with an ADP of TE7. Despite his undeniable charisma, Kittle seems to have been overshadowed by the rapid rise of young and promising tight ends in 2023. This situation has led to Kittle being undervalued, with an ADP of TE7. However, for astute fantasy managers, Kittle’s current value presents a remarkable opportunity to secure a top-tier tight end at a bargain price. Despite the reasons behind Kittle’s low ADP, it remains a compelling proposition for fantasy managers seeking a reliable TE1 option. Sometimes, in the world of sports, it’s simply wise to seize a great opportunity without delving too deeply into the reasons behind it.
