Who is Xavier Worthy? | Fantasy Football Draft Profile

Let’s talk about Xavier Worthy, a receiver who, prior to the Combine, was not on the radar of most people. However, after breaking the 40-yard dash record and his name being added to the NFL records book without yet being an NFL player, he is now in the sight of many, especially in fantasy football.

But what did Xavier Worthy do during his college career to be considered a good prospect?

Worthy played three years for the Texans Longhorns. He had 981 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first season, which is also the season where he had the most touchdowns. He had an average of 15.8 yards per reception. In 2022, his numbers went down a bit: 760 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. Then, in 2023, he surpassed 1000 receiving yards. He did it little by little, but he did it, finishing with 1014, to be exact, and 5 touchdowns.

Because of his speed, the Longhorns also used him as a punt returner. In 2021, he had just three attempts, but in 2023, he had 23 returns, recording 371 yards and scoring 1 TD in those attempts. And speaking of touchdowns, besides his receiving, in 2022, he also had one pass attempt, taking the role of quarterback in a play to trick the other team, and completed a pass of 33 yards, resulting in a touchdown.

Worthy has a lot of agility to run routes. Because of this, when he makes the cut he can get away from the defender and gain more yards after the reception

All players have certain weaknesses, and without a doubt, Worthy’s is his hand strength when it comes to catching the ball. However, it is not something that worries me because, with training, that is something he can improve a lot.

Worthy’s Fantasy Value

In terms of Fantasy Football, I have Xavier Worthy as the fourth receiver in my rankings for the rookie drafts, behind Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze. He has demonstrated that he is a very fast player, and he can accelerate in an incredible manner. His route running is also fantastic. These skills will help him leave the defense behind and gain proper separation to receive the passes from his future quarterback.

His projection in the NFL Draft is that he will be picked up in the first round. Teams like the Bills, Raiders, and Cardinals sound like they would be the ideal teams to select him. But let’s not forget that Patrick Mahomes reached out to him after the Combine. The current situation with the Kansas City Chiefs is not in the best spot when it comes to receivers. Therefore, for me, being able to see Worthy receiving passes from Mahomes would be incredible. If this were to happen, his value in fantasy could go up several positions in the draft.

Worthy tiene mucha agilidad para correr rutas después del corte al defensa, si los defensivos permiten que el receptor les gane en las curvas, van a tener serios problemas, ya que con su velocidad se puede escapar y conseguir bastantes yardas después de la recepción.

Yo tengo a Xavier Worthy como mi receptor 4 en mi ranking para los Rookie Drafts. Además de haber demostrado que es un jugador muy muy veloz, lo cual nos lleva a que acelera de una manera increíble y eso lo ayudará a dejar atrás a los defensivos y lograr la separación correcta para recibir los pases de su futuro QB. Su recorrido de rutas con esta arma es increíble.

Su proyección en el Draft de la NFL es que se vaya en la primera ronda. Equipos como Bills, Raiders, Cardinals suenan para ser los indicados en seleccionar al receptor, pero no olvidemos que Patrick Mahomes se puso en contacto con él después del Combine y la situación actual de los Kansas City Chiefs no es la mejor en tema de receptores, así que para mi ver a Worthy recibiendo pases de Mahomes sería increíble. Si esto llegara a pasar, su valor en Fantasy subiría automáticamente muchos puestos en los Drafts.
