Welcome to the Week 17 Waiver Wire. With your championship hopes on the line, there is already a lot of pressure, and that pressure is magnified when you must rely on a waiver-wire player to get that victory. As I’ve been doing for the entire fantasy playoffs, I will only give you players that I would actually start on one of my own teams with a championship on the line. Since this is the last article of the season, I am giving you one player at QB, RB, WR, TE, K, and DEF, along with an honorable mention at each. It has been a fun season navigating the waiver wire with you. Good luck in your championship…unless you’re playing me.
Quick Note: All players listed are available in around 50% of ESPN leagues. While not everyone plays on ESPN, studies show most do. So, if they’re available there, they’re likely available on your platform. Pick ‘Em Up!

Week 17 Waiver Wire
QB- Jared Goff vs CHI
Putting your championship hopes in the hands of Jared Goff is usually bad advice. Truth be told, I’d rather suggest Gardner Minshew, but there is no guarantee he’s even playing this week. If you’ve followed along with my Streams of the Week, you know that odds are my Honorable Mentions are going to outdo my picks here by a wide margin, so if Minshew plays, get you some of that Magic. However, if you’re stuck with Goff, take solace in the fact that he is at home, where he plays like an All-Pro, and he is coming off a 355-yard, 3-TD performance. He is hot right now and should beat up on the Chicago Bears with a potential playoff berth on the line.
Honorable Mention: Gardner Minshew vs NO (if he plays) or Mike White @ SEA (if Minshew doesn’t play)
RB- Tyler Allgeier vs ARZ
With Desmond Ridder taking over this offense, Allgeier has been on a tear. He has 213 yards and a TD over his last two games and even added four receptions last week. In all honesty, it’s been a solid rookie season for Allgeier, and he should not be available in this many leagues. He has topped 50 yards in nine games, including each of his last five. The Cardinals give up the 5th-most points to fantasy RBs, and Atlanta is still technically in the running for a playoff spot. They are going to run Allgeier all day long.
Honorable Mention: Zack Moss @ NYG
WR- Richie James vs IND
While Indy has been decent against WRs, they tend to shut down the deep threat and get beat by the underneath guy. Keenan Allen just torched them while Mike Williams had a bad game. This is terrible news for Darius Slayton, but Richie James could be a PPR darling in your championship game if you have holes at WR. James has caught 30 balls and three TDs since Week 11. Perhaps more importantly, he was targeted 12 times last week against Minnesota or short and intermediate routes. James could easily match the 20 fantasy points that Keenan Allen just dropped on the Colts with that volume.
Honorable Mention: Jahan Dotson vs CLE

TE- Greg Dulcich @ KC
Like every other TE in fantasy, Dulcich has been hit-and-miss. He scored a TD last week, and the Chiefs still give up the 15th-most fantasy points to TEs. Three weeks ago, Dulcich caught three balls for 42 yards against the Chiefs for a pedestrian seven fantasy points. If he can repeat last week’s TD, that becomes a top-5 week at the fantasy’s ugliest position.
Honorable Mention: Tyler Conklin @ SEA
K- Ryan Succop vs CAR
That’s right; I’m even giving Kicker advice this week. Not to brag, but if you tuned into our Start/Sit show on Saturday, we mentioned benching all outdoor kickers in favor of domes, and that advice certainly got some people into their championships with all the missed extra points and field goals we saw in the Week 16 cold. For Week 17, the weather shouldn’t be as bad, and certainly not in Tampa Bay. With the Bucs fighting to hold their lead in the division, and Brady fighting Father Time with every pass, expect a big game for Succop against the division rival. He hit four FGs and one XP last week, and I see a similar output in Week 17 against a suddenly contending Panthers team.
Honorable Mention: Cameron Dicker vs LAR
DEF- Jacksonville Jaguars @ HOU
We’re focusing on teams with something to play for here, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have a division to win. They have to travel to Houston, but they are coming off a solid road victory against the Jets and scored 13 fantasy points while beating them on Thursday. The Jags have multiple takeaways in five of their last six games and at least one in seven of their previous eight games. These two teams faced off back in Week 5, and Jacksonville’s D/ST scored six fantasy points despite only recording one sack. If five points are their floor, and their ceiling is 10+, they are the perfect streaming option in your championship game.
Honorable Mention: Washington Commanders vs CLE
