If you’re new to fantasy football or just new to streaming, things are about to get weird. As the season winds down, two things almost always happen. First, bad teams stop paying attention. This shouldn’t matter because they’re bad, but it does. Bad managers make bad decisions, and that is how we tend to end up with good players on waivers. To make matters worse, the second thing you’ll notice is that the good teams start hoarding players to maximize their playoff efficiency. This becomes incredibly annoying at positions where you only start one player, but teams are suddenly holding backup QBs, TEs, and DEFs. You may recognize those as the three positions you are here to read about. This should be fun. Here are our Top-5 streaming options at QB, TE, and defense from our Week 13 rankings.
A Quick Note: You will notice that I do not cover Kicker streams. We leave that to the experts, so check out Linda’s rankings.
Accountability
Week 12 was actually pretty good, but the trend continues. My Stream of the Week QB was a toss-up between Taylor Heinicke and Trevor Lawrence. I picked Heinicke, and he played well enough. However, Lawrence was fantastic. It’s almost to the point where you are better off going with my 2nd option.
Overall for the week, my Streams of the Week scored 38 fantasy points. Compared to the QB12, TE12, and DEF12 for the season, that is a solid four-point advantage.
For the year, while my top picks are just the QB8, TE22, and DEF21, my optimal lineup is far better. My Best of the Bunch score represents my best pick each week, whether I called them my Stream of the Week or not. So far, we have built the QB1, TE2, and DEF1. Nobody is beating Travis Kelce, so I’m okay with 2nd place there.

Quarterback
Stream of the Week – Jimmy Garoppolo @ MIA
After a stellar Week 11, Jimmy G came back to Earth in Week 12. While he still hit 200 yards, he threw just one TD vs four in the previous game. Like any QB, he needs those TDs to be relevant, and Miami ranks in the Top 10 for QB touchdown passes allowed. The Dolphins give up the 4th-most fantasy points to QBs and have allowed six QBs to score 20+ on them this season. There is some rivalry between the coaching staffs here, and both teams are fighting for the playoffs. Throw in injuries at RB for both squads, and you hopefully get more passing than we’re used to from Garoppolo and the 49ers.
Other Options
- Jared Goff vs JAX
- Mike White @ MIN
- Marcus Mariota vs PIT
- Kenny Pickett @ ATL

Tight Ends
Stream of the Week – Evan Engram @ DET
Engram has been pretty boring this season, but we’re banking on Trevor Lawrence and picking on the matchup here. Detroit allows the 4th-most points to TEs and gives up five catches for 56 yards on average. Engram has been dealing with injuries and is on a three-game streak without hitting five fantasy points in a game. However, before this span, he was on a four-game streak of at least nine fantasy points in each game. With Lawrence looking better every week, this should be a get-right game for Engram.
A quick note about Taysom Hill: As long as he meets the criteria, Hill will be my permanent #2 on this list. He offers an upside that no streaming TE can match, but his floor is still very bad. That floor is why I would never consider starting him at QB, but he is worth the gamble at TE. My fundamental issue with calling him a TE will likely prevent me from ever calling him my Stream of the Week.
Other Options
- Taysom Hill @ TB
- Foster Moreau vs LAC
- Logan Thomas or John Bates @ NYG
- Tyler Conklin @ MIN

Defense
Stream of the Week – Seattle Seahawks @ LAR
It was a rough week for the Seahawks in Week 12. They got obliterated by Josh Jacobs and scored a whopping one fantasy point. That’s right, you were almost better off starting no defense last week than the Seahawks, and yet they are my Stream of the Week for Week 13. Well, the Rams don’t have Josh Jacobs…or a QB…or any WRs. The situation couldn’t be more different. Los Angeles allows the most fantasy points to D/ST this season and has given up 5+ fantasy points in each of their last four games. This includes giving up 11 points to Kansas City on their way to a DEF3 finish last week. You’re betting on sacks and turnovers, and the Rams allow over three sacks per game and one turnover on average over their last five games. Expect a big bounce back from the Seahawks.
Other Options
- Browns @ HOU
- Steelers @ ATL
- Packers @ CHI
- Falcons vs PIT
