Stream of the Week: QB, TE, and Defense | Week 3 Rankings

Week 3 Defense Rankings

A word before we get into our Week 3 QB, TE, and Defense Stream rankings: We’re all about accountability here at Club Fantasy. If you make a terrible call, own it, and be prepared to be reminded of it constantly. There’s even an entire section dedicated to it later in this article. But sometimes, the call is so bad it leaks into your intro. Sometimes, you call Matt Ryan your Stream of the Week. Oof.

For those that didn’t watch football last week, you reading this article only scored 1.8 fewer fantasy points than Matt Ryan, an NFL quarterback (allegedly.) That means Matt Ryan barely outscored Cole Kmet, and that just won’t get it done in fantasy football. You tied Kmet, by the way; good job. While it’s true Ryan lost his WR1 and WR3 after my article dropped, an apology is still in order, hopefully, accompanied by better advice. I’m sorry, now let’s get into Week 3.

Reminder: All picks were available in more than 50% of ESPN leagues on Wednesday after waivers had run.

Accountability

It’s safe to say that Matt Ryan sunk us. We now hate him, and there will be no forgiveness. Our goal is to beat 35 fantasy points per week, the average score of the QB12, TE12, and DEF12 last season. In Week 2, we scored just 19. All in all, we hit on two QBs, not Matt Ryan, three TEs, and two DEFs, including both Streams of the Week. For the season, we’ve built the QB24, TE21, and DEF17. Not good.

Our Best of the Bunch shows how good it could be if I made better choices. This is the score of the best of my five picks each week. I just didn’t make them the Stream of the Week. So far, they are the QB3, TE5, and DEF3. If you choose from my picks better than me, you can live your wildest streams!

Week 3 Streams of the Week

Quarterback

Stream of the Week – Jared Goff @ MIN

It is very hard to trust Goff. I get it. At one point in this article last season, I refused to name him anymore because of the letdowns. He was He Who Must Not Be Named. However, on the season, he has gone over 200 yards and at least two touchdowns in both games. In Week 2, the Vikings got torched by Jalen Hurts. Goff could not be more different than Hurts, but if the latter can hit 333 passing yards, I feel good about Goff’s chances to keep his 200/2 streak alive. Then there is the Amon-Ra St. Brown effect. The Sun God has burned Minnesota in his first two meetings and looks like an even better player for this third outing. Start Goff to get your piece of St. Brown.

Tight End

Stream of the Week – Irv Smith vs DET

Week 1 was always going to be bad for Smith. He had a long recovery from surgery on his hand and no preseason to gel with the offense. That was all corrected in Week 2. Smith went for 36 yards and a TD on eight targets. He was the TE4 on the week. On the other side, you have the Lions giving up four catches and 56 yards to TEs on average through two games. Logan Thomas went for 12 points in Week 2 against Detroit after Dallas Goedert hit 9 in Week 1. Smith could be the #2 target in this passing game and may not be stream-eligible for very long.

Defense

Stream of the Week – Cleveland Browns vs PIT – Thursday

Thursday Night games can get weird but let’s roll with it. The Browns’ defense has played pretty well for seven quarters this season. The 4th quarter against the Jets has certainly tarnished their image. However, a home game against a hated rival feels like prime bounce-back territory, especially when that rival has scored just 31 offensive points on the season. The Steelers’ offense does not look good, and they just allowed eight fantasy points to the Patriots DEF/ST in a three-sack effort in Week 2. The Browns’ defense averages three sacks per game, and you know Myles Garrett is ready to cut loose in this game. We could see 5+ sacks, and I’m predicting the first pick-6 of Mitchell Trubisky‘s career.
