Insert overused ‘Football is back” intro here. But seriously, FOOTBALL IS BACK! You’ve probably read those words 100 times this week, and it still makes you smile. You’re happy, I’m happy, we’re all happy! So, welcome to my weekly Stream of the Week article. We went video last year, but I have a face made for writing, so you’ll find my work back on the site this season! If you’re new to the article, here’s a quick summary: Based on our rankings, I give you my five favorite plays at Quarterback, Tight End, and Defense for Week 1. The catch: using Yahoo’s rostership, all of these guys are available in at least 50% of leagues.
I use Yahoo for two reasons: 1. It’s the easiest to access. 2. I believe that most fantasy players still use them. While these percentages may differ on Sleeper, ESPN, and all other platforms, at least one of these guys is probably available for you to stream.
In case you’re new to streaming, here is the simplest of rundowns.
Streaming simply means starting a new QB, TE, and DEF every week. Most people do it with kickers too, but I leave that to the real expert. You play the matchups and add a new player at these positions weekly. The idea is that if you don’t have a top player at these positions, you can build one.
The QB1 usually averages about 27 fantasy points per game at the end of the season. The QB12 is about five points behind that. So instead of throwing out the same inferior QB every week and losing five points, you start a different subpar QB every week, but the one with the best matchup. This gives you the best chance to close the gap to the top players at the position without wasting a high draft pick. Get it? Got it. Good!
Accountability
Usually, there will be a table here telling you how great I’ve been at streaming for the season. It’s never bad. You have nothing to be worried about here. Jokes aside, I own up to my mistakes, and there will be plenty when dealing with the worst 50% of players in fantasy. Here is a link to my end-of-year lessons from 2021.
Enough living in the past. It’s to stream a little stream.
Week 1 Streams of the Week
Quarterback
Stream of the Week – Jameis Winston @ ATL
Jameis gonna Jameis. Sometimes that means four TDs; Sometimes, it means five INTs. Sometimes it’s both. Thankfully, Atlanta projects as one of my least favorite defenses this year, and I think 3+ touchdowns are on the menu. With weapons like Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, and Chris Olave, Winston has the tools to make this a BIG opening week.
Other Options
Matt Ryan @ HOU
Carson Wentz vs JAX
Jared Goff vs PHI
Ryan Tannehill vs NYG

Tight End
Stream of the Week – Austin Hooper vs NYG
With A.J. Brown gone, the target share in Tennessee will change in 2022. Robert Woods is likely the 1st option, but rookie Treylon Burks is far from a proven commodity. Before being wasted in Cleveland, Austin Hooper had TE1 upside, and the Giants tend to surrender points to the position. I don’t like to lean on past deficiencies in Week 1, but let’s go with it until they prove me wrong. Tannehill targeted TEs over 100 times last season, and I think Hooper is good for six-to-eight targets in this game.

Mike Gesicki vs NE
Gerald Everett vs LV
Cameron Brate @ DAL
Brevin Jordan vs IND

Defense
Stream of the Week – Philadelphia Eagles @ DET
With the splash that the Eagles made bringing in A.J. Brown, some may have missed the excellent additions to their defense. In the front seven, they added Kyzir White and Haason Reddick to an already good pass rush. They also drafted Nakobe Dean and Jordan Davis, bolstering them against the run. In the secondary, the additions of James Bradberry and C.J. Gardner-Johnson will partner well with Darius Slay to create nightmare scenarios for QBs. In Week 1, that’s Jared Goff. Yes, Goff is on my QB list too, but never underestimate the power of garbage time. The Eagles’ defense will wreak havoc for three quarters, and Garbage-TIme Goff will save your fantasy day in the 4th!
