Pick ‘Em Up: Week 9 Fantasy Football Waiver Claims

Week 9 Waiver Wire

If you play in as many leagues as I do, you may not have taken a good look at your league standings recently; go do that. It seems that most leagues this season have a few teams tearing up the top, a couple dwelling in the basement, and a HUGE group within two games of each other in the middle. More than likely, your team is still in the playoff hunt. Adding to the confusion is that we have 14 fantasy regular-season games this year. In most of my leagues, in the past, my goal was to hit that 8-win mark and know that a spot was mine. I have no idea if that holds true. So, let’s keep working that waiver wire and finish this playoff push!

As always, everyone mentioned today will be available in 50% or more Yahoo leagues. Last week, the Ravens and Raiders were on a bye, so be sure to check if any of their better players were dropped out of desperation. On that same note, this week, watch the drop list for any players from Detroit, Seattle, Tampa Bay, and Washington, as they are all on bye in Week 9.

Quarterbacks

Carson Wentz (50% Available)
A Thursday night appointment with the Jets starts a run of nice games for Wentz. He has also thrown for multiple TDs in five straight. If you’re streaming, you can roster Wentz and play him for the next five weeks.

Jimmy Garoppolo (89% Available)
He might lose his job to Trey Lance eventually, but Jimmy G is the man in San Fran for now. He scored two rushing TDs last week, proving that this team will do anything to avoid giving Trey Sermon the football. Garoppolo plays Arizona this week and should be able to put up points again.

Running Backs

Jeremy McNichols (97% Available)
Adrian Peterson will get the hype, and he’s a tough guy to doubt, but give me Jeremy McNasty! Peterson is 36 years old and averaged fewer than 4 yards per carry last season. He also has never been much of a receiving back. McNichols is familiar with this offense and has reeled in 21 balls for 201 yards as Henry’s backup this year. He has sneaky PPR value, and I would much rather have him than AP.

Running back is a mess right now. McNichols and, maybe, AP are the only names I’d go after. Do not chase the Eagles’ RBs. This situation is a 3-RB committee and temporary until Sanders returns. Not worth your FAAB. Check to see if anyone cut Kenyan Drake or Latavius Murray during their bye week.

Wide Receivers

Russell Gage (85% Available)
I don’t love Gage, but with Calvin Ridley stepping away, there aren’t many WR1s sitting on waivers in this many leagues, and the Falcons will be throwing the ball a lot.

Jamison Crowder (81% Available)
Crowder is averaging seven targets per game since his return from injury and has two games with nine targets. He sees volume and has the ability to score TDs. With backup QBs playing, short routes will be king, and that is where Crowder lives.

Darnell Mooney (58% Available)
I know the Bears are bad, and Fields hasn’t looked great; Mooney is still his favorite target and is putting up WR3 numbers without scoring TDs. If he starts to score, you’ll wish you had him.

DeVante Parker (65% Available)
Parker has been targeted at least seven times in every game he’s played this season. It remains to be seen what this offense will look like with all three of their big WRs active, but Parker is starting to look like a safe floor, at least from a volume standpoint.

Hunter Renfrow (58% Available)
Renfrow has only missed 10+ fantasy points once this season and has a dream schedule coming out his bye. I’m going to chalk his availability up to his Week 8 bye and hope he’s not on this list next week.

Jamal Agnew (98% Available)
He’s far from a household name, but 25 targets in three weeks are hard to ignore. For whatever reason, he has Trevor Lawrence’s eye, and that makes him fantasy relevant.

Tight Ends

Pat Freiermuth (90% Available)
TE3 last week.

Dan Arnold (96% Available)
TE2 last week.

Tyler Conklin (75% Available)
TE8 last week.

Not sure you need more info than that, but if you do…go read this article for the last three weeks, as I’ve told you to sign them EVERY DAMN WEEK. Your window is closing to get a free TE1.
