Fantasy Football Streams of the Week: Week 5

Week 5 Defense Rankings

By The Stream Master General, Ryan Weisse

As we get into the bye weeks, streaming becomes much more important…and much more difficult. Teams that were not playing this streaming game that we love now join the fray. They will likely be blowing their waiver claim on some one-week fill-ins like suckers but if you’re reading this, you know that all the guys I’m about to give you are available in more than 50% of leagues AFTER waivers have run. Last week, our Stream of the Week DEF/ST was a top-3 finisher and Robert Tonyan, my 1b SOTW, was the #1 TE in fantasy football. You’ll notice that I did not mention QBs, more on that later. There are some solid streaming options for Week 5, so let’s get to it.

Accountability

Week 4 was far better than Week 3 but QBs continue to vex me, to the point where my SOTW is starting to look like a KoD. (Kiss of Death!) Defense continues to be my strong point, which is no surprise — I’ve been covering DEF/ST for four years with The Fantasy Footballers. The clutch addition of Robert Tonyan made last week look really, really good but I still did not count him as my Stream of the Week, since I labeled him 1b.

I did add a new metric this week — Best of the Bunch — to show you that I’m not a complete idiot. Every week, I give you my top-5 options and, unfortunately, most weeks my Stream of the Week turns out not the highest scorer of the options I give. If you were to pick the right one of my five, you can have a top-5 QB/TE/DEF on the season. The idea here is to show how you would fare if you made better choices than me for your Stream of the Week.

Quarterbacks

SOTW – Teddy Bridgewater (@ ATL)
Bridgewater has looked solid, as has Robby Anderson and Mike Davis in replacement of CMC. Bridgewater has thrown for 235+ in every game this season and hit a TD in each of his last three games. He is coming off of a three-touchdown game last week (2 passing, 1 rushing) and finished as the QB4 in Week 4. To make matters so much better, he plays the Falcons in Week 5, who happen to allow the most points fantasy to QBs. Bridgewater is available in more than 70% of leagues on both Yahoo and ESPN.

2. Daniel Jones (@ Dal)
3. Gardner Minshew (@ HOU)
4. Jimmy Garoppolo (vs MIA) – Monitor status, may not play
5. Kirk Cousins (@ SEA)

Tight Ends

SOTW – Eric Ebron (vs PHI)
As much as my co-host, Josh Hudson, keeps insisting his Eagles are good against TEs, I think he needs to take this L. The Eagles surrender the 3rd most points to TEs on the season and have allowed five TDs and 25 receptions to the position in the first four games. Ebron scored his first TD as a Steeler in Week 3 and has 12 targets in the last two games. This is Ebron’s 2nd appearance as my TE Stream of the Week, here’s hoping this time it actually works out! Ebron can be picked up in over 65% of leagues, on both Yahoo and ESPN.

2. Tyler Eifert (@ HOU)
3. Ian Thomas (@ ATL)
4. Jordan Akins (vs JAX) – Monitor status, may not play, if he is out, pivot to Darren Fells
5. Mo Alie-Cox (@ CLE)

DEF/ST

SOTW – Arizona Cardinals (@ NYJ)
It seems just about every week we could stream the Cardinals…and 50% of the time, they will deliver. I think Week 5 tips the scales to the side of good, as the New York Jets are just about a guaranteed top-10 finish. The Jets will run Joe Flacco out instead of Sam Darnold and should have Le’Veon Bell back for this game…it won’t matter. They are giving up the most points to fantasy DEFs so far and have allowed 12 sacks in the first four games, allowing six last week alone. The Cardinals had 11 sacks in the first three games before putting up a 0 last week. Look for them to fix that in Week 5 and they are available in 54% of ESPN leagues, but just 44% on Yahoo.

2. Kansas City Chiefs (@ LV) – Possible COVID issues for Raiders
3. Cleveland Browns (vs IND)
4. Houston Texans (vs JAX)
5. Dallas Cowboys (vs NYG)
