Below you’ll see how I view all of the relevant NFL offseason transactions. I say relevant because, for the purposes of fantasy football, defensive signings don’t impact us as much as the offensive ones. I’ll cover the defensive signings when I do my team-by-team previews later in the summer.
I’ll identify the player, who they signed with or were traded to, and how I think it impacts their fantasy value going into 2017, positive or negative. Next up:Â Danny Woodhead signs with Baltimore.

Transaction: Danny Woodhead signs with the Baltimore Ravens
Fantasy Outlook: I’m curious to know how many people know this. Former Ravens fullback Kyle Juszczyk scored 71.7 fantasy points for a 58th place finish in Club Fantasy scoring. He signed a record contract – for a fullback – with the 49ers this offseason. So the Ravens went out to sign Woodhead to fill a similar role in their offense.
Now I know what you’re thinking. Juszczyk is a fullback and Woodhead is a running back. Keen observation, young Jedi. My best guess is that Woodhead will fill the role of “offensive weapon,” someone they can use as a running back and a pass catcher. Which is exactly how they used Juszczyk.
Two seasons ago, Woodhead finished 3rd in PPR scoring at the running back position. That gave fantasy owners high hopes going into last season. Then he tore his ACL in the second game of the season and “poof!” went his season. If Woodhead can return to full strength, I see a slight uptick in Juszczyk-like production in 2017. Somewhere around 100 or so fantasy points. The Ravens want to win on the ground. And while Terrance West is hardly the most impressive back on the Ravens, or in the league for that matter, he was serviceable last season. He’ll play a big role in the Ravens offense, especially the first quarter of the season with second year back Kenneth Dixon suspended the first four games. Look for Woodhead’s most productive weeks to come in this time frame, as he’ll be a good change-of-pace back to compliment West.
Bottom line, Woodhead won’t be drafted as high as last season. He’s likely to go undrafted in most drafts. A 14th or 15th round flier on him certainly isn’t the worst thing, especially with what he could potentially provide in the first four weeks of your season.
