With Week 2 in the books, you start to ask some questions this week. Is your team a contender? What do you need to win? Do you even have a quarterback? Hopefully, waivers can help with those last two. This week’s best waiver wire pickups feature players stepping into bigger roles and potential league-winning adds you don’t want to miss. Every week, we’ll highlight our Top 5 fantasy football waiver wire pickups to help you stay ahead of the competition and keep your roster strong.
A few quick notes: I use ESPN as my baseline, so players must be available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues to make the list. I’m also a proponent of streaming QB, TE, K, and DEF, so you’ll rarely see those positions here; they’re easy to snag for free after waivers. Save your FAAB! Now, let’s hit the Top 5.
Week 3 Fantasy Football Waivers

Dalton Schultz (79% Available on ESPN, 56% on Sleeper)
That’s right, my standard intro says I will rarely mention QBs and TEs, and I am making a TE my number-one priority. My reasoning is two-fold. First, Schultz looked like a volume monster in Week 2. Second, a few TEs got hurt this week, and you may need some help here.
With Nico Collins out, Schultz was targeted 14 times, catching 12 balls for 140 yards. He is now the TE5 in fantasy. Collins’ injury could be multi-week, and Schultz still saw eight targets in Week 1 when Collins played. He is the Texans’ WR2.
FAAB Suggestion: 10%. Likelihood you’ll still be starting him in a month: 66%.

Tyler Shough (50% Available on ESPN, 52% on Sleeper)
YUP, I am featuring a QB just after a TE. Again, we lost some starters this week, and Shough might save your season. Shough is the current QB6 in fantasy, and if you just lost Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or Jaxson Dart, he might be your savior. We saw the passing upside in Week 1, with 56 attempts and 410 yards. Then in Week 2, he showed us he can run the ball too, adding 23 yards and a TD on the ground. The Saints will be behind a lot this year, and Shough is likely to remain a top-12 QB.
FAAB Suggestion: 10%. Likelihood you’ll still be starting him in a month: 40%.
Denzel Boston (74% Available on ESPN, 58% on Sleeper)
Talk about a surprise. I wasn’t sure there would be a startable Browns player this year, let alone their number-two rookie WR. He only saw four targets in Week 1, but broke a long TD. Then, in Week 2, the target volume jumped to seven, and he broke another long TD. Through two games, Boston has 154 yards and two TDs and is averaging over 20 yards per catch. He is a big play waiting to happen and a perfect Flex play in fantasy.
FAAB Suggestion: 15%. Likelihood you’ll still be starting him in a month: 33%.
Emanuel Wilson (99% Available on ESPN, 97% on Sleeper)
Full Disclosure: I hate all Waiver Wire Eligible RBs this week. But it also felt weird not putting one on the list. So here are. Jadarian Price picked up an injury in Week 2, and it could linger. In his first real action of the season, Wilson looked better than the rookie. He carries the ball 21 times for 92 yards and could lead this backfield for the next month. Don’t spend too much FAAB, because he could easily be a flash in the pan, but if you are RB-needy, he might help you in Week 3, at least.
FAAB Suggestion: 10%. Likelihood you’ll still be starting him in a month: 15%.
Oronde Gadsden (98% Available on ESPN, 66% on Sleeper)
Another TE? Yeah, it’s a weird week. I loved Gadsden last year and also cast him aside when the Chargers announced three co-starters at TE. Well, things cleared up this week, with David Njoku and Charlie Kolar heading to the IR. It also helps that Gadsden found the endzone in Week 2, showing he still has Justin Herbert’s eye. This Chargers offense is a mess, but if you are struggling at TE, Gadsden showed top-10 upside last season and now has the room to himself.
FAAB Suggestion: 10%. Likelihood you’ll still be starting him in a month: 40%.
