Week 14 Fantasy Football Waivers: Adonai Mitchell is primed for an expanded role!

No, this isn’t your normal voice on waiver wire Tuesday. But the season goes on, and you’re staring down the barrel of a fantasy football championship. And damn it if we at Club Fantasy aren’t trying to help you get there.

It’s put up or shut up time. What we’re looking for on waivers are players that can either help us win this week or players with quality matchups throughout the fantasy football playoffs. So the plan within this article will be centered around that.

Yes, you should be handcuffing your stud RBs with guys like Blake Corum, Tyler Allgeier, et al. You should also be looking for TEs to stream and WRs that can help you as FLEX plays. Remember, we have four teams on a bye the week before the fantasy football playoffs begin! So if there’s a player you think can help, grab them without hesitation.

Bye Week Notes: To wrap up the season, the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers all get Week 14 off. Watch your league’s drops this week for players from these teams who were cut out of desperation. Who knows, they could help you on your march towards a championship.

Fantasy Football Week 14 Waivers

Week 14 Fantasy Football Waivers

Adonai Mitchell (NYJ)

In his first three games with the Jets, Mitchell has seen 6, 7, and 12 targets. His catch numbers have gone up each game, as have his yards. And he finally found the endzone last week. Why should you pay attention to a New York Jet? It’s simple: they finally have a competent passer under center who understands defensive coverages. This derivative of the Detroit Lions offense features two main pass catchers – the Amon-Ra St. Brown role (slot) and the Jameson Williams role (outside). Mitchell’s ability to get downfield will see him play a similar role to Williams. And let’s face it – the Jets will need to throw to keep up. They see Miami in Week 14, followed by at JAX, at NO, and vs NE in the fantasy football championship. And until we hear a timetable on the return of Garrett Wilson, I have zero issue firing up Mitchell as a high upside FLEX option.

Isaac TeSlaa (DET)

With Amon-Ra St. Brown reportedly set to miss this Thursday’s matchup against Dallas (and potentially Week 15 at LAR), TeSlaa becomes an intriguing option. We know Jameson Williams will step up and be the focal point of the pass attack. But who steps up to be that number two option? TeSlaa has been operating as the team’s WR3 all season. Fellow Lion Kalif Raymond has been with the team for years and always seems to step up in the clutch when needed. I’d prioritize TeSlaa over Raymond, but I think both will have a role as the Lions try to keep pace with the high-flying Cowboys offense.

Jayden Higgins (HOU)

Jayden Higgins has four straight weeks of 5+ targets and 4+ receptions. And he’s caught a touchdown in two of his last four games. The question for me heading into last week with CJ Stroud returning as the team’s starting QB was if Higgins would continue to operate as the team’s WR2. Higgins finished last week as the WR26 in fantasy, so we got our answer. Higgins is starting to play to his draft cost and reach the potential many of us felt he had. His continued production means good things for Nico Collins and the Texans offense. Facing the Chiefs in KC this week is better for WR2s, and his Week 16 matchup vs LV is also a plus matchup.

Devaughn Vele (NO)

After trading Rashid Shaheed for draft picks, the Saints were desperate for someone, ANYONE, to develop into a viable WR2 on their team. Maybe that guy is Vele. We saw strong plays from him last season while in Denver, and the Saints felt enough about him to trade a 4th for him during the preseason. Vele has 15 targets over his last two games, and finally broke out with 93 yards and a touchdown in Week 13 against a beatable Miami secondary. Good thing the equally beatable Bucs secondary is on deck in Week 14. Tyler Shough has a big arm and Vele, a big-bodied WR, has the ability to go up and get those passes. When bad teams have to throw to keep up, fantasy points usually follow. The Saints follow up their Week 14 matchup at TB with two home games vs CAR and NYJ, then finish at TEN in the fantasy football championships.

Brenton Strange (JAX)

Ryan doesn’t like to add TEs in his top 5 often. But with so few quality TEs on a weekly basis, it’s okay to get ahead of the streaming game. Parker Washington came down with an injury and Brian Thomas Jr is still struggling to find chemistry with Trevor Lawrence. And while the recently acquired Jakobi Meyers has hit the ground running in this offense, Brenton Strange has two straight weeks as a top 7 TE, scoring 14+ fantasy points in each game. While he only has 9 targets through those two games, he’s making the most of them. And he has plus matchups against the Colts (twice), Jets, and Broncos over his next four games. This is the kind of streamer that can secure you a playoff spot.
